Cooking Wild Rice: add heat and water, bring to a boil

Spirit Lake Native Farms works hard to parch wild rice the same day it comes off the lake.  Our wild rice cooks within 15-20 minutes.  When we first started selling our product at the local Farmer's Market, many customers tended to overcook their wild rice.  So are here at the basic instructions:

1 cup of uncooked wild rice will make about 3 cups of cooked wild rice

Add 1 cup of raw wild rice to 3 cups of boiling water in a heavy saucepan or pot. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer until rice is tender and has absorbed the water.  This will take about 15-20 minutes.
