Q. Are there any additives in the maple syrup?
A. At Spirit Lake Native Farms we boil pure Sugar Maple sap in wood-fired continuous flow Waterloo Evaporator that is completely stainless steel. There are no additives to the maple syrup. The process involves heating the sap and boiling off the water in a slow and purposeful natural process.
Q. Why is Maple Syrup better than processed sweeteners?
A. The Ojibwe have used pure maple sugar to preserve food and for trade. The granulated sugar was easily stored and carried in birch bark containers. The sugar has no additives and is a good source of minerals..
Q. How long does pure maple syrup stay fresh?
A. Once opened maple syrup should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 1 year and is good for 1 year unopened in the pantry.
Q. How much maple sap is needed to make one gallon of maple syrup?
A. It takes approximately 40-50 gallon of sap, to make 1 gallon of maple syrup.
Q. Do you sell maple syrup in plastic containers?
A. Currently, we prefer bottling in glass to ensure the quality and taste. Although, it is easier to ship plastic you can be assured we will provide good packaging for your product.
